CRITICAL REVIEW REPORT PART B

TASK DESCRIPTION

  •   In relation to your chosen topic/issue, and with reference to the two articles offering opposing perspectives regarding the topic/issue, complete a critical review in the form of a report.
  •   In your report’s introduction, summarise the underlying issue so that the reader understands the situation/context. (NOTE: Use the feedback you received in Part A to help complete this part of your report.)
  •   THEN, critically evaluate the substance of your chosen articles with regard to your chosen issue.
  •   FINALLY, present your own conclusions in relation to your critical evaluation.
  •   You are expected to write in the third person. (E.g. The author’s view is that … The author’s experience is that … The author’s research indicates that … etc…)
  •   When you submit your work, include a Title Page plus Reference list.
  •   PART B DUE: 8 November 2021, 14:00 (2 pm, Brisbane time)
Assessment TypeReport
Learning Objectives assessed1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Word limit2000 words +/- 10% (excluding references)
PLEASE NOTE: You need to have completed Part A to complete Part B

NOTE: Though the report is based on a minimum of two key articles, you are encouraged to read widely and, as appropriate, draw on other relevant literature to inform your thinking. Use a minimum of 8 academic references to do this.

FORMAT OF REPORT:

  •   Font: Times New Roman / Arial / Calibri
  •   Font size: 12
  •   Line spacing: 1.5 line spacing throughout
  •   Justify both margins
  •   Referencing: AMJ
  •   Use report format (see over) REPORT FORMAT:

TIP: It’s more challenging writing a ‘tight’ report with a restricted word limit, however this is exactly the type of situation you will find yourself in once you begin working in industry. Therefore, spend time reading and thinking about the most important aspects of the issue you are exploring, and focus your thoughts accordingly.

Title PageInclude your name, student ID, course code/name, report title, the number of words in your report, and the date submitted.
IntroductionThis provides a summary of the major points and conclusions drawn in your report, and should be relatively short (eg, maximum 150 words) as you are providing the reader with a general overview of “what’s to come”. HINT: Write the introduction last to ensure you include the most relevant points highlighted in your report.
BodyAs the main section of your report, it’s helpful to include sub- headings that reflect the different arguments/points being made as part of your critical review. Sub-headings also help with the structure and logical flow of information you present (and also helps highlight the key points you should include in your report’s introduction).
ConclusionThis is where everything comes together as you summarise the key points/conclusions drawn from your critical review of the topic/issue. HINT: Do not introduce any new ideas/points into the conclusion – there should be no surprises for the reader. The conclusion should also be succinct (eg, no more than 150 words).
Reference ListThis appears as a final, separate page of your report. Include all sources of information mentioned in the report.
