Curriculum Expectation C1-C2 C1. Demonstrate an understanding of expressions, philosophies, and beliefs found within specific cultures and how these expressions relate to various aspects of those cultures C2. Analyse specific cultural expressions and a range of factors that can affect them
TASK:
– Create an infographic which visually answers the question:
In what ways are the values reflected in traditional *INSERT CULTURE HERE* weddings similar and different from the values reflected in traditional Greek weddings?
CRITERIA:
- – Your infographic should be a “graphic visual representation of information, data, or knowledge intended to present information quickly and clearly”.
- – The traditional Greek wedding values which you use for comparison must be collected entirely from the source provided (film).
- – ‘Weddings’ — in this assignment, and as per our discussions in class — refers to the whole process from courtship to starting a family.
- – No title page, no necessary sources, no need for a bibliography. IDEAS/SUGGESTIONS/CONSIDERATIONS:
- – Google: infographic. Select: images. All of these are infographics. Design one that makes sense to you, and that could be used as a quality resource.
- – Notice that the TASK does not simply ask you to compare and contrast weddings in two cultures. Make sure to also demonstrate how the values reflected in each culture’s weddings are similar/different.
- – Have fun with this TASK: aim to create something visually appealing. I am not evaluating your art skills, but I am evaluating your ability to organize and communicate your ideas effectively and neatly.
- – This TASK is the equivalent of childhood poster projects… do not include links to outside sources on your infographic.
- – You may choose to create your infographic digitally, or by hand. If you choose to do this task by hand, simply submit a good quality photo of the final product. RUBRIC:
- – Remember that Level-3 means ‘Meets Expectations’. By Grade 12, I expect you to be able to create a good infographic, which fulfills all assignment criteria. Level-4 work requires you to surpass my expectations: to make connections that are deeper and more insightful than our classroom conversations. The TASK QUESTION is open-ended enough to allow you to explore this topic much more deeply than we have had the chance to in class.
- – Answer the “why?”. I.e. including photos of wedding attire side by side and simply indicating that one is white and the other is red does not meet expectations, and does not demonstrate how the values of each culture differ.
