Fuelz Foods is a Brisbane-based meal creation and delivery startup. Created by students for students Fuelz Foods aims to create and deliver high quality affordable meals to students and the broader community. Founded by Nathan and Emily, they have been in operation for just over a year and secured a regular customer base.

Their business operations have been significantly interrupted with the onset of the COVID 19. Their main method of delivery of their meals took place each Monday to customers who studied or worked at UQ’s St Lucia campus.

With classes moving to online delivery they needed to find a new way to deliver their meals and reach their customer base. With social distancing in place and restrictions on eating out, there was also the opportunity to fill the increase in demand for prepared meals.

In this assignment you will be acting as a Fuelz Foods consultant tasked with creating a new strategy for Fuelz Foods and presenting this strategy as a PowerPoint slide deck with an accompanying short report, max 1000 words. You should think of the PowerPoint as a presentation of a pitch to the founders of Fuelz Foods, and the short report is similar to the script used to explain key parts of the presentation. As the purpose of the PowerPoint is to become a presentation, the use of visuals will be important to convey clear messages and ideas.

Assignment Details

The assignment is designed to encourage you to consider all key aspects of viable business opportunity. With current social distancing measures in place, this places limitations on how you can validate your ideas. This is an opportunity to help each other in the assignment and engage in customer discovery with your peers in this class and your wider network.

Things to consider when creating your suggested strategy:

1.The value proposition. This is the customer problem you are trying to solve or what unique value the customer will gain FuelzFoods. You can expand beyond students as a target market or demonstrate the value that FuelzFoods creates for them. Your job is to identify and validate (through customer discovery techniques) a value proposition they could pursue.

2.The Business Model. A detailed explanation of how FuelzFoods could execute the value proposition to create value for the customer and FuelzFoods. A business model brings together the four functional areas of a business. These are: the value proposition, operations and resource management, marketing and sales, and financial management. The videos and readings on business model analysis and the business model canvas on Blackboard provide a good starting point for developing a business model which creates value for customers and for FuelzFoods.

3.The steps you have taken to validate the value proposition and test the feasibility of the business model. Here you will need to explain your plan for gathering data to validate the value proposition and include any primary data (for instance, from surveys or interviews) or secondary data that you have gathered to test the key assumptions in the business model. The assignment should demonstrate how the information (data) acquired helps to refine, develop or change either your value proposition or how you execute the growth strategy.

4.The quality of the narrative and presentation of your slide deck and accompanying short report to assist in communicating your response strategy. The PowerPoint slide deck and accompanying short report need to be presented in a clear, logical and professional manner. The PowerPoint deck should use visual information (images, graphs, charts, diagrams) to convey messages rather than relying on extensive text. The accompanying report should be presented with a cover page including all the names of the students responsible for contributing to the report, student numbers and the final word count. The report should have double-line spacing and correctly use a consistent referencing style (Harvard, APA or AMJ) if references are used. The reference list is not included in the 1000 (+/- 10%) word count.

5.For students submitting this assignment in a team, 5% of marks will be allocated to teamwork and collaboration. All teams must complete the compulsory, confidential peer assessment on Blackboard within five days of submitting this assignment.
