Task Description:In the workshops scheduled weeks 5, 6, and 7, students will be assessed on their teamwork and strategic environment analysis. Participating as members of the Management Team of a case organisation, students will be allocated to teams where they will analyse the firm’s internal and external strategic environments. They will do this by undertaking PESTLE, Porter’s Five Forces, and VRIN analyses of the case organisation. Students will be assessed on their participation in the Management Team Meeting, and the quality of the strategic analysis their team provides to the case company as the output of their meeting. You will have THREE opportunities to be assessed on your performance in the Strategic Planning Unit Meetings and your BEST TWO marks out of 15 will count towards your final mark for the course (2 x 15% = 30%). Students who are absent for a Management Team Meeting will receive a mark of zero. A student who has legitimate grounds for an absence from a Management Team Meeting under the University’s assessment policy must contact the course coordinator prior to, or within 24 hours of, the missed assessment and must provide appropriate supporting documentation.

Preparation prior to seminarCompletion of analysis
Students review the foundational course content (lecture slides/recording or text chapter) and read the assessable case study. Students are responsible for bringing to the Management Team meeting analysis of the External Environment (general environment, industry analysis and competitor analysis) and Internal Organisation  (VRIN) of the case company.  Templates for analysis will be available on BlackBoard. Completion of preparation work and sharing of insights from all team members is a work integrated learning experience similar to working in a real-life Management Team.PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:A student who fails to submit their preparation analysis will not be able to participate in the Management Team meeting with their team and will receive a mark of zero for the assessment.A student who submits their admission ticket but who does not then participate in the Management Team meeting with their peers will receive a mark of zero for the assessment. 
In-Seminar
 Allocation to Management TeamEnvironment analysis and reporting
Students will be allocated to a team, which represents a Management Team of the case company. Management Team members will report key insights from the preparatory analyses of their admission tickets to develop a team position on the external and internal environments of the case company. At the end of this first phase, Management teams will be asked to report their team’s external and internal analysis in a whole-class debrief facilitated by the workshop coordinator as the basis for further strategic analysis. Facilitators will move around the various Management Teams to (i) probe for more theoretically grounded reasoning to deepen learning of course material, and (ii) assure that individual students are contributing to their team’s meetingPLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:A student who submits preparatory analysis but does not remain for the Management Team meeting will receive a mark of zero for the assessment.A student who submits preparatory analysis but attends the Management Team meeting after the advised starting time will be penalised for their initial absence.
